At the age of fourteen or fifteen, you can’t expect a child to decide a career and , base off their entire life on that decision. This is the age, that a child first starts experiencing glimpses of real life, from the comfort of their sheltered environments. So, how can they plan their whole life when they can’t even begin to fathom what lies ahead.
But what can be expected of them is that they start exploring themselves, know their interests and passions; and that is all that they need, because what is a career if not a custom-made amalgamation of our interests and aptitudes. Our interests, things we like and find fascinating, are easy to determine but our aptitudes, things we excel at, are not always known. And what does a 14- year-old know .what might be the best fit for his specific interests and aptitudes?
This is where Career Counselling comes into the picture, it is what helps us dig out from the depths of our brain what our aptitudes are and what best career choice they will yield. And due to these multitude of reasons it’s crucial that it should be taken seriously and be pursued from
the right age, which is usually when a child starts the ninth grade. The timing is a sensitive factor because if children are able to identify their passions and strengths earlier on, they can nurture them throughout their time in school and college and be ready for when their time comes to take the world by storm!
